Regular Season Round 23: Rivas - Villarrobledo 76-66

There was an upset when 3rd placed Villarrobledo (14-5) was defeated on the road by eighth ranked Rivas (10-9) 76-66 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Rivas. Villarrobledo was better in second period 26-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Rivas forced 20 Villarrobledo turnovers. The best player for the winners was swingman Javier De-Pinto (197-92) who scored 14 points. Eduardo Martinez (193-96) chipped in 13 points. Rivas' coach Juanjo Simon used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Vadal Faniel (201-92, college: Texas A&M Int.) produced 23 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import point guard LeShaun Murphy (183-90, college: Auburn-Montgomery) added 12 points respectively for the guests. Rivas moved-up to seventh place in Group B, which they share with Alcobendas. Loser Villarrobledo keeps the third position with five games lost. Rivas will face higher ranked Almansa (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Villarrobledo will play against Gran Canaria II in Las Palmas and hope to win that game.
