Regular Season Round 24: Kyoto Hannar. - Niigata Albirex 94-92

Fifth-ranked Niigata Albirex (14-22) gave a tough game to second ranked Kyoto Hannar. (20-16). Kyoto Hannar. managed to secure only two-point victory 94-92. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Niigata Albirex. Niigata Albirex was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by Zimbabwean-American Julian Mavunga (203-90, college: Miami, OH, agency: Pensack Sports) who scored that evening 38 points (!!!) and 5 assists and American center Joshua Smith (208-92, college: Georgetown) supported him with 14 points. Even a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) by American Davante Gardner (203-91, college: Marquette) did not help to save the game for Niigata Albirex. The former international guard Kei Igarashi (180-80) added 22 points and 7 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Kyoto Hannar. maintains second position with 20-16 record having eight points less than leader Ryukyu GK. Niigata Albirex at the other side keeps the fifth place with 22 games lost. Kyoto Hannar. will play against Nishinomiya S. (#5) in Hyogo in the next round. Niigata Albirex will play at home against Diamond Dolphins and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
