There was no surprise in Santander where 8th ranked Valladolid Univ. (10-10) was edged by sixth ranked Cantbasket (12-8) 101-98 on Saturday. Valladolid Univ. trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 35-26 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 98-101 at the end of the game. Cantbasket dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Valladolid Univ.'s 42. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Valladolid Univ.'s players. The best player for the winners was American power forward Davie Champagnie (206-90, college: Martin Methodist, agency: SPORTlab Agency) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). Guard David Garcia (192-80) chipped in a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 assists. Five Cantbasket players scored in double figures. Alberto Garcia produced 18 points and 5 rebounds and Javier Martinez (187-97) added 20 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Cantbasket maintains sixth place in Group A-A with 12-8 record. Loser Valladolid Univ. keeps the eighth position with ten games lost. Cantbasket will face La Fecha (#9) in Arroyo Encomienda in the next round. Valladolid Univ. will play on the road against Burgos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
