Regular Season Round 18: Cortegada - Barca CBS 61-57

There was a small surprise in Vilagarcia Arousa where sixth ranked Cortegada (11-7) defeated 4th ranked Barca CBS (12-6) 61-57 on Saturday. Barca CBS was trailing by 8 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 18-12 charge of Cortegada, which allowed them to win the game. Cortegada outrebounded Barca CBS 41-30 including 28 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Cristina Loureiro (183-94) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Sara Gomez (172-86, agency: ProDep Management) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 assists. Four Cortegada players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Monica Lazaro (-86) who recorded 15 points and 8 rebounds and Carla Perez (-91) added 9 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Barca CBS's coach Mateo Rubio rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cortegada maintains sixth position in Group A with 11-7 record. Newly promoted Barca CBS keeps the fourth place with six games lost. Cortegada will face Joventut LC (#7) in Barcelona in the next round. Barca CBS will play at home against Ascensores Tresa and hope to win that game.
