Regular Season Round 23: Cartagena - Benidorm 66-65

Date: February 10, 2018
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when seventh ranked Cartagena (7-9) edged at home 6th ranked Benidorm (9-7) 66-65 on Saturday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-16. But Benidorm won second period 18-9. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cartagena had a 31-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was forward Javier Santabarbara (197-95) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. American point guard Clinton Parker (183, college: Ancilla CC) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. American forward Darren Payen (203, college: Vermont) produced 14 points and 5 rebounds and Jaume Valles (203-95) added 12 points respectively for the guests. Four Benidorm players scored in double figures. Cartagena maintains seventh place in Group E with 7-9 record, which they share with Lliria and Sagunto. Loser Benidorm keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. Cartagena will face higher ranked L Alfas (#3) in Alfas Del Pi in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
