Regular Season Round 18: RC Celta - Rioja 79-65

Leader Real Celta Vigo delivered the fifteenth victory. This time they beat 8th ranked Rioja (9-9) 79-65. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Rioja. The game was mostly controlled by Real Celta Vigo. Rioja was better in second period 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American-Nigerian guard Sarah Ogoke (178-90, college: So.Poly State) notched 27 points to lead the effort and center Raquel Carrera (188-1) supported her with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Four Real Celta Vigo players scored in double figures. Even 18 points and 8 rebounds by American center Erika Livermore (185-93, college: Fair Dickinson) did not help to save the game for Rioja. DR Congolese-Belgian center Harriet Bende (186-94) added 9 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Real Celta Vigo maintains first position in Group A with 15-3 record. Newly promoted Rioja dropped to the seventh place with nine games lost. Real Celta Vigo's next round opponent will be Lima-Horta (#10) in Barcelona and are hoping to win another game. Rioja will play at home against Maquinaria Ensino and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
