Regular Season Round 18: Gran Canaria - Real Canoe 86-55

Undefeated leader Gran Canaria recorded the eighteenth consecutive victory on Saturday night. This time they crushed 5th ranked Real Canoe (12-6) 86-55 in Las Palmas. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Real Canoe. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 13-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 86-55. Gran Canaria dominated on the defensive end, holding Real Canoe to just 4 points in third quarter. They also forced 21 Real Canoe turnovers and outrebounded them 41-22 including a 28-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American guard Erica Covile (185, college: Temple) who scored 22 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. The other American import point guard Starr Breedlove (168-93, college: UTEP) chipped in 22 points. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. Gran Canaria's coach Maikel Lopez felt very confident using 11 players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Marta Blanes (184-77, agency: ProDep Management) who recorded 13 points and center Monica Garrido (185-82) added 3 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Gran Canaria (18-0) have an impressive 18-game winning streak. They maintain first position in Group B with a perfect record of 18 victories in a row. Newly promoted Real Canoe keeps the fifth place with six games lost. Gran Canaria will face league's second-placed Valencia on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Real Canoe will play against Picken Claret and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
