Regular Season Round 25: Denso Iris - Mitsubishi K. 82-81 OT

Fourth-ranked Mitsubishi K. (16-9) made lots of trouble for second ranked Denso Iris (20-5) in Kariya on Saturday. Denso Iris managed to secure only one-point victory 82-81. However their fans expected easier game. The hosts trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game in overtime by 1 point. Denso Iris shot 60.4 percent from the field and made 32-of-37 free shots (86.5 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 54.8 percentage. Denso Iris looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Denso Iris made 231 blocks. Mitsubishi K. was plagued by 52 personal fouls down the stretch. Center Himawari Akaho (181-98) fired a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds (made all of her eight free throws) for the winners. The former international power forward Maki Takada (183-89) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds. The former international swingman Aya Watanabe (170-92) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Mai Kawai (170-96) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Mitsubishi K.'s coach Koga Kyoko rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Denso Iris have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain second place with 20-5 record having four points less than leader JX-Eneos S., which they share with Toyota A. Mitsubishi K. at the other side keeps the fourth position with nine games lost. Denso Iris will face Fujitsu RW (#6) in Kawasaki in the next round. Mitsubishi K. will play at home against Chanson V-M and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
