Not a big story in a game when 15th ranked Virtus Roma (6-15) was defeated on the road by first ranked Novipiu Casale (17-4) 73-62 on Sunday. Novipiu Casale outrebounded Virtus Roma 38-21 including 26 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Virtus Roma was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Croatian center Aleksandar Marcius (208-90, college: De Paul) who scored 19 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). The former international power forward Niccolo Martinoni (203-89) chipped in 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Novipiu Casale's coach Marco Ramondino used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Aaron Thomas (196-91, college: Florida St.) who recorded 14 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import power forward Lee Roberts (201-87, college: Findlay, OH) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Novipiu Casale maintains first place in A2 with 17-4 record. Loser Virtus Roma keeps the fifteenth position with 15 games lost. Novipiu Casale will face Lighthouse TRP (#6) in Trapani in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Virtus Roma will play at home against Cuore Napoli (#16) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
