Regular Season Round 20: Gipuzkoa GBC - Zaragoza 94-99

There was a minor upset in San Sebastian where 12th ranked Gipuzkoa (8-12) was defeated by fourteenth ranked Zaragoza (7-13) 99-94 on Sunday. Zaragoza made 26-of-32 free shots (81.3 percent) during the game. Strangely Gipuzkoa outrebounded Zaragoza 40-28 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American guard Gary Neal (193-84, college: Towson) who scored 31 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!). FYR Macedonian-American point guard Bo McCalebb (178-85, college: New Orleans) chipped in 13 points and 4 assists. Four Zaragoza players scored in double figures. Dutch center Henk Norel (213-87) produced 22 points and 8 rebounds and Canadian point guard Kenny Chery (180-92, college: Baylor) added 18 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Zaragoza maintains fourteenth position with 7-13 record. Newly promoted Gipuzkoa dropped to the thirteenth place with 12 games lost. Zaragoza will meet at home higher ranked Baskonia (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Gipuzkoa will play against RETAbet BB (#16) in Bilbao and hope to secure a win.
