Regular Season Round 17: Noorteliiga - Tartu Ulikool 71-100

Bottom-ranked Noorteliiga (0-11) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 100-71 loss to second ranked Tartu Ulikool (13-6) in Tallinn on Tuesday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The game without a history. Tartu Ulikool led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Noorteliiga's 42. They outrebounded Noorteliiga 50-25 including a 18-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. American forward Steven Cook (196-94, college: Princeton) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and Lithuanian forward Julius Kazakauskas (196-90) chipped in 12 points and 12 rebounds. Five Tartu Ulikool players scored in double figures. Point guard Ron-Arnar Pehka (185-98) responded with 18 points and 4 assists and guard Leemet Loik (198-1) scored 16 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tartu Ulikool have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 13-6 record having five points less than leader Kalev/Cramo. Loser Noorteliiga still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Tartu Ulikool will meet Valga (#4) on the road in the next round. Noorteliiga will have a break next round.
