Regular Season Round 33: Kouvot - Espoo United 88-82
Date: February 14, 2018
Very expected game in Kouvola where 9th ranked Espoo United (10-19) was defeated by third ranked Kouvot (17-13) 88-82 on Wednesday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 27-16 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Kouvot made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American forward Thomas Gipson (201-93, college: Kansas St., agency: HMS) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international Ville Kaunisto (204-82, agency: Court Side) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Jeb Ivey (190-80, college: Portland St.) who recorded 18 points and 5 assists and the other American import guard Omar Calhoun (198-93, college: Connecticut) added 16 points respectively. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Kouvot have a solid series of three victories in a row. Despite that victory Kouvot went down to fourth position due to points difference. Espoo United lost seventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth place with 19 games lost. Kouvot will meet league's second-placed Helsinki Seagulls on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Espoo United will play against UU-Korihait (#10) in Uusikaupunki and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
