Regular Season Round 16: Aris - Lavrio 80-69

The most important game in the last round took place in Thessaloniki between third ranked Lavrio (10-6) and eleventh ranked Aris (6-10) on Wednesday night. Lavrio was defeated by Aris on the road 69-80. They outrebounded Lavrio 41-24 including a 28-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Lavrio helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Giannis Athinaiou (194-88, agency: Octagon Europe) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 12 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists. The former international power forward Michalis Tsairelis (206-88) contributed with 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American-Panamanian guard Doron Lamb (193-91, college: Kentucky) replied with 16 points and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and American forward D.J. Johnson (206-93, college: Kansas St.) added 14 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) in the effort for Lavrio. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Aris moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Koroivos. Lavrio at the other side keeps the third position with six games lost. They share it with AEK and Promitheas. Aris is looking forward to face league's second-placed Olympiacos in Pireus in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Lavrio will play at home against Cretan Kings and is hoping to win this game.
