There was a small surprise when seventh ranked GECR Indalo (8-8) beat 7th ranked La Union (8-7) in Formosa 100-94 on Wednesday. La Union was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Center Diego Romero (206-82, college: Florida St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). American forward Shaquille Johnson (190-90, college: Marshall) contributed with 19 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. GECR Indalo's coach Martin Villagran used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Naturalized Spanish guard Jonathan Maldonado (188-90) replied with 24 points and 7 rebounds and the former international swingman Alexis Elsener (196-88) added 21 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for La Union. Five GECR Indalo and four La Union players scored in double figures. Despite that victory GECR Indalo went down to tenth position due to points difference, which they share with Estudiantes C. Loser La Union dropped to the ninth place with seven games lost. GECR Indalo will face higher ranked Regatas Corrientes (#7) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
