Regular Season Round 23: Liepajas SSS - Saldus 66-59

Rather expected game when 6th ranked Saldus (4-14) were defeated on the road by fourth ranked Liepajas SSS (9-7) 66-59 on Wednesday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Saldus won third quarter 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Liepajas SSS won last quarter 21-16. They also forced 26 Saldus turnovers. The best player for the winners was guard Paula Klescova (179-1) who scored 10 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals. Point guard Lina Loceniece (150-2) chipped in 15 points. Four Liepajas SSS players scored in double figures. Karina Korenika (-3) produced 27 points and 8 rebounds and center Kolina Kartere (159-3) added 9 points and 12 rebounds respectively for the guests. Saldus' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for Liepajas SSS. They moved-up to third place, which they share with G4S Noorteliiga. Saldus lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team keep the sixth position with 14 games lost. Liepajas SSS will meet at home league's leader Tartu U. in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Saldus will play against the league's leader Tartu U. (#1) and hope to secure a win.
