Regular Season Round 19: IR - Thor AK 85-69

Everything went according to plan in Reykjavik where third ranked IR (14-5) beat 11th ranked Thor AK (3-16) 85-69. It looked good early as Thor AK took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then IR had a 21-16 second period charge getting the lead and Thor AK was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 69-85. They outrebounded Thor AK 46-32 including a 35-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. IR brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Ryan Taylor (196-92, college: Marshall) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists. Forward Saethor Kristjansson (200-97) accounted for 17 points and 5 blocks for the winning side. IR's coach Borche Ilievski allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward Nino Johnson (206-93, college: SE Missouri St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Hilmar Henningsson (194-0) added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for Thor AK in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. IR moved-up to second place, which they share with Tindastoll. Thor AK lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 16 games lost. IR will play against Grindavik (#6) on the road in the next round. Thor AK will play against Valur (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
