Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Rio de Janeiro: Vasco Da G. (#11) and Botafogo F.R. (#12). Botafogo F.R. was defeated at home 87-94 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Botafogo F.R.. Vasco Da G. made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Botafogo F.R. was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American David Jackson (195-82, college: Penn St.) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 7 assists (perfect from downtown making all five shots) and guard Luis-Gustavo de-Oliveira (190-91) who added 13 points and 4 assists during the contest. American point guard Jamaal Smith (175-85, college: N.Mexico) responded with 17 points and 8 assists and his fellow American import Cameron Tatum (200-88, college: Tennessee) scored 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Vasco Da G. and five Botafogo F.R. players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Vasco Da G. (9-13) moved-up to tenth place. Loser Botafogo F.R. keeps the twelfth position with 15 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
