There was a small surprise in Santiago del Estero where fourteenth ranked Independiente (7-18) defeated 12th ranked Ameghino (11-17) 76-69 on Friday. Independiente made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game, while Ameghino only scored three points from the stripe. Independiente looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Ameghino was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American power forward Willie Readus (201-92, college: Delta St.) fired a double-double by scoring 29 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Alejandro Spalla (197-89) chipped in 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Power forward Juan-Luis Abeiro (196-88) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and American forward Tirrell Brown (198-93, college: Ouachita Baptist) added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Independiente maintains fourteenth position in North with 7-18 record. Ameghino lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the thirteenth place with 17 games lost. Independiente will face higher ranked Deportivo Norte (#10) in Armstrong in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
