Regular Season Round 21: HyPo - Honka 84-80

The game between second ranked Tapiolan Honka (17-4) and fourth ranked HyPo (14-7) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Tapiolan Honka was defeated by HyPo in a tough game in Hyvinkaa 80-84. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Tapiolan Honka. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 47-42 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. HyPo looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The former international center Taru Tuukkanen (192-77, college: Xavier) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners and American guard Candice Warthen (165-92, college: Arizona) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. HyPo's coach Miikka Sopanen used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American guard Kiana Johnson (171-93, college: Virginia Union) with a triple-double by scoring 21 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals and the former international swingman Heta Korpivaara (185-84, college: Seton Hall) scored 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. HyPo have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Defending champion maintains fourth place with 14-7 record. Newly promoted Tapiolan Honka keeps the second position with four games lost. HyPo are looking forward to face league's leader Catz Lappeenranta on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tapiolan Honka will play against Peli-Karhut and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
