Date: February 17, 2018
D1 top team - Skallagrimur (17-3) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed ninth ranked IA (0-20) in Akranes 115-81. It looked good early as IA took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Skallagrimur had a 36-24 second period charge getting the lead and IA was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 81-115. Skallagrimur dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to IA's 40. Skallagrimur forced 24 IA turnovers and outrebounded them 47-35 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by IA's players. It was a great evening for American guard Aaron Parks (190-94, college: CS Northridge) who led his team to a victory scoring 35 points (!!!) (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Swingman Eyjolfur Halldorsson (194-98) helped adding 22 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Skallagrimur players scored in double figures. Skallagrimur's coach Finnur Jonsson felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American point guard Marcus Dewberry (183, college: St.Leo) responded with 42 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and forward Sigurdur Sigurdsson (198-88) scored 11 points. Skallagrimur have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 17-3 record. IA at the other side still closes the standings. Skallagrimur will play against Gnupverjar (#7) in Reykjavik in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. IA will play on the road against Snaefell in Stykkisholmur and hopes to get finally their first victory.
