Regular Season Round 21: Kouvot - Helmi Basket 68-61

Rather predictable result in Kouvola where seventh ranked Kouvottaret (8-13) defeated 9th ranked Helmi Basket (3-18) 68-61 on Saturday. Helmi Basket was trailing by 6 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 18-9 charge of Kouvottaret, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was American forward Layne Murphy (188, college: Chicago St.) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Her fellow American import point guard Brittany Carter (183-93, college: Illinois) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Four Kouvottaret players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was international guard Sara Bejedi (166-0) who recorded a double-double by scoring 29 points and 12 rebounds and international Elina Arike (182-0) added 6 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Helmi Basket's coach Pekka Salminen rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Kouvottaret moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Espoo Team. Helmi Basket lost their sixth game in a row. They keep the ninth position with 18 games lost. Kouvottaret will meet Forssan Alku (#8) on the road in the next round. Helmi Basket will play against Aanekosken and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
