Regular Season Round 19: Rioja - Ensino 60-81

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Maquinaria Ensino (13-6) crushed 9th ranked Rioja (9-10) in Azkoitia 81-60 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Maquinaria Ensino. Rioja was better in second period 23-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maquinaria Ensino shot 66.0 percent from the field. It was a very good performance for guard Regina Gomez (173-82, agency: ProDep Management) who helped to win the game recording 18 points. American Margaret Roundtree (183-88, college: Gardner-Webb, agency: ProDep Management) contributed with 18 points (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) for the winners. Roundtree is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Maquinaria Ensino players scored in double figures. DR Congolese-Belgian center Harriet Bende (186-94) answered with 16 points and 7 rebounds and guard Intza Lizarazu (171-91) added 12 points in the effort for Rioja. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Maquinaria Ensino. They moved-up to fourth place in Group A. Newly promoted Rioja dropped to the eighth position with ten games lost. Maquinaria Ensino will face Lima-Horta (#10) in Barcelona in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Rioja will play on the road against Arxil Pontevedra and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
