Regular Season Round 40: Mineros - Capitanes 62-76

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Mineros (25-12) at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by third ranked Capitanes (23-14) 76-62. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Mineros. Capitanes dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Mineros' 22. They outrebounded Mineros 39-27 including 29 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international power forward Fernando Benitez (204-89) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. The former international point guard Pedro Meza (186-85, college: Arizona W. CC, agency: Pro Sports) contributed with 12 points and 8 assists for the winners. Five Capitanes players scored in double figures. Puerto Rican-Polish point guard Francis-Jonathan Han (185-87, college: Fairfield) replied with 7 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and Panamanian center Jaime Lloreda (204-80, college: LSU) added 10 points in the effort for Mineros. Mineros' coach rotated ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Capitanes maintains third position with 23-14 record having just two points less than leader Mineros. Mineros at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still keep top place with 12 games lost. Capitanes are looking forward to face Correcaminos (#5) in Ciudad Victoria in the next round. Mineros will play on the road against the league's second-placed Soles (#2) in Mexicali and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
