Regular Season Round 24: Casvi - Rivas 79-72

There was an upset when higher ranked Rivas (10-11) lost to thirteenth ranked Casvi (6-15) in Villaviciosa 72-79 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 29-18 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Casvi shot 69.0 percent from the field. Casvi outrebounded Rivas 33-19 including a 27-8 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Casvi especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 66.7 percentage. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Casvi made 8 blocks. It was a good game for Alfonso Ortiz (190-99) who led his team to a victory with 23 points and 5 rebounds. American-Nigerian guard Deji Ibitayo (193-93, college: Akron, agency: Duran International) contributed with 19 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. American guard Terence Grier (188-87, college: Fair Dickinson) replied with 13 points and 4 steals and power forward Pablo Marinan (200-86) added 14 points in the effort for Rivas. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Casvi maintains thirteenth position in Group B with 6-15 record, which they share with Lanzarote and Liceo Frances. Loser Rivas dropped to the ninth place with 11 games lost. Casvi will face higher ranked Gran Canaria II (#10) in Las Palmas in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
