Regular Season Round 19: Real Canoe - Picken Claret 59-67

There was a small surprise when seventh ranked Picken Claret (12-7) beat 5th ranked Real Canoe (12-7) in Madrid 67-59 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 43-32 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Picken Claret dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Real Canoe's 24. Picken Claret forced 22 Real Canoe turnovers. It was a very good performance for forward Beatriz Royo (176-91) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Gloria Argente (182-88) contributed with 12 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Five Picken Claret players scored in double figures. Picken Claret's coach Carles Martinez used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. Power forward Veronica Matoso (185-88, agency: ProDep Management) answered with 15 points and 8 rebounds and forward Marta Blanes (184-77, agency: ProDep Management) added 14 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Real Canoe. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Picken Claret. They moved-up to fifth place in Group B, which they share with Alcobendas and Real Canoe. Picken Claret will face higher ranked Adelantados (#3) in San Cristobal in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Real Canoe will play on the road against the league's second-placed Valencia and hope to win that game.
