Very predictable result in Nagoya where second ranked Toyota A. (22-5) defeated 8th ranked Hitachi Cougars (9-18) 69-56. Hitachi Cougars were tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Toyota A. dominated on the defensive end, holding Hitachi Cougars to just 7 points in third quarter. They made 17-of-20 charity shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Toyota A. forced 24 Hitachi Cougars turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for the former international power forward Evelyn Mawuli (180-95) who led the winners and scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Minaho Minamiminoru (167-93) accounted for 13 points for the winning side. Saki Matsumoto (176-94) came up with 11 points and 8 rebounds and guard Aya Tsurumi (164-92) added 9 points respectively for Hitachi Cougars in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Toyota A.. They maintain second place with 22-5 record having four points less than leader JX-Eneos S. Hitachi Cougars at the other side keep the eighth position with 18 games lost. Toyota A. will play against bottom-ranked Niigata R. (#12) in Tokyo in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Hitachi Cougars will play at home against Toyota B SR (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
