Regular Season Round 20: Njardvik - Breidablik 66-70

Bottom-ranked Njardvik (0-20) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 20th consecutive match to sixth ranked Breidablik (9-11) 70-66 on Wednesday evening. The guests trailed by 13 points after three quarters before their 24-7 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Breidablik dominated on the defensive end, holding Njardvik to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Strangely Njardvik outrebounded Breidablik 56-34 including a 41-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American guard Whitney Knight (190-93, college: FGCU) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds. International forward Isabella Sigurdardottir (179-97) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks. Breidablik's coach Hildur Sigurdardottir used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American Shalonda Winton (180-91, college: Cleveland St.) produced a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 20 rebounds and 7 assists (was perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line !!!) and center Maria Jonsdottir (185-93) added 4 points and 14 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Breidablik moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Skallagrimur. Loser Njardvik still closes the standings. Breidablik will meet at home Snaefell (#7) in the next round. Njardvik will play against Keflavik and hopes to get finally their first victory.
