Regular Season Round 20: Stjarnan - Skallagrimur 64-73

Stjarnan (#4) was upset in Stjarnan by seventh ranked Skallagrimur 73-64. It looked good early as Stjarnan took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Skallagrimur had a 17-9 second period charge getting the lead and Stjarnan was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 64-73. They outrebounded Stjarnan 52-29 including a 24-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by American swingman Carmen Tyson-Thomas (180-91, college: Syracuse, agency: Two Points) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds and the former international power forward Sigrun Amundadottir (181-88) supported her with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 29 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists by American guard Danielle Rodriguez (178-93, college: Utah) did not help to save the game for Stjarnan. Swingman Briet Hinriksdottir (181-96) added 11 points for the hosts. Skallagrimur (9-11) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Breidablik. Stjarnan at the other side keeps the fourth position with nine games lost. Skallagrimur will play against league's leader Haukar in Hafnarfjordur in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Stjarnan will play on the road against the league's second-placed Valur in Reykjavik and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
