Second Stage Round 5: Medvescak - Buducnost 50-88

The game in Zagreb supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked Montenegrin Buducnost (7-4) played at the court of 5th ranked Croatian ZKK Medvescak (4-7). Buducnost smashed ZKK Medvescak 88-50 on Wednesday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of ZKK Medvescak. The game without a history. Buducnost led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to ZKK Medvescak's 40. They outrebounded ZKK Medvescak 38-25 including a 31-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Buducnost looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was Serbian swingman Kristina Topuzovic (183-94, agency: BeoBasket) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds. American center Marie Malone (189-89, college: Hofstra) chipped in 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Iva Todoric (174-93) produced 16 points and 7 rebounds and center Patricia Bura (188-96) added 10 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending Montenegrin champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Montana. Defending Croatian champion ZKK Medvescak dropped to the sixth position with seven games lost. Buducnost will meet at home league's leader Celje in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. ZKK Medvescak will play against Crvena Zvezda (#4) in Beograd and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
