Second Stage Round 5: Montana - Crvena Zvezda 81-56
Date: February 21, 2018
The game between Top Four teams took place in Montana. Second ranked Bulgarian host Montana 2003 (7-4) smashed 4th placed Serbian Crvena Zvezda (6-5) 81-56. The game without a history. Montana 2003 led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game, while Crvena Zvezda only scored four points from the stripe. Montana 2003 forced 20 Crvena Zvezda turnovers. 24 personal fouls committed by Crvena Zvezda helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American power forward Sarah Boothe (195-90, college: Stanford) stepped up and scored 33 points (!!!) (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winners and Serbian guard Milana Zivadinovic (179-91) chipped in 10 points. Guard Nevena Naumcev (173-99) responded with 10 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Marija Prlja (163-87) scored 12 points. Four Crvena Zvezda players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Montana 2003 maintains second place with 7-4 record having just two points less than leader Celje, which they share with Buducnost. Defending Serbian champion Crvena Zvezda keeps the fourth position with five games lost. Montana 2003 is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Tresnjevka (#8) in Zagreb in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Crvena Zvezda will play at home against ZKK Medvescak (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
