Regular Season Round 16: Valmiera - Jurmala 83-86

Eighth-ranked Valmiera (3-20) made lots of trouble for third ranked Jurmala (14-4) on Wednesday. The visitors from Jurmala managed to secure only three-point victory 86-83. However their fans expected much easier game. Valmiera was trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 21-15 charge of Jurmala, which allowed them to win the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The former international guard Haralds Karlis (198-91, college: Seton Hall) fired 20 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. The former international point guard Edgars Jeromanovs (186-86) chipped in 14 points and 8 assists. Center Viktors Iljins (212-91) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds and guard Edmunds Elksnis (187-90) added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Jurmala have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 14-4 record having just three points less than leader Ventspils. Valmiera lost twelfth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 20 games lost. Jurmala are looking forward to face league's leader Ventspils at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Valmiera will play against BK Ogre (#4) and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
