An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Reykjavik. Second ranked Valur faced 4th placed Stjarnan. Host Valur (16-5) smashed guests from Stjarnan (11-10) 82-57. The game without a history. Valur led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Valur had a 32-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Valur made 10 blocks. The best player for the winners was American swingman Aaliyah Whiteside (183-94, college: Georgia Tech) who scored 26 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. International guard Gudbjorg Sverrisdottir (180-92) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Whiteside is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Valur players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Danielle Rodriguez (178-93, college: Utah) who recorded a double-double by scoring 24 points, 13 rebounds, 8 assists and 8 steals (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and forward Maria Sigurdardottir (178-89) added 14 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Valur have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Haukar. Stjarnan lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with ten games lost. Valur is looking forward to face Breidablik (#7) in Kopavogur in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Stjarnan will play at home against the league's leader Haukar and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
