Regular Season Round 24: Rivas - Almansa 70-85

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Rivas (10-11) lost at home to fourth ranked Almansa (15-5) 85-70 on Saturday. Almansa dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Rivas' 20 and made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Rivas 40-29 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for American-Puerto Rican guard Bobby Harris (185-91, college: Amer.Internat., agency: Duran International) who led his team to a victory with 31 points and 6 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). Power forward Jose Santonja (200-92) contributed with 7 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Almansa's coach Ruben Perello used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Eduardo Martinez (193-96) replied with 10 points and 8 rebounds and power forward Pablo Marinan (200-86) added 12 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Rivas. Almansa have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place in Group B, which they share with Villarrobledo. Loser Rivas dropped to the ninth position with 11 games lost. Almansa will face Liceo Frances (#15) in Madrid in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Rivas will play at home against Lanzarote (#13) and hope to win that game.
