Everything went according to plan when first ranked Azuqueca (18-2) defeated 14th ranked Lanzarote (6-15) in Arrecife 75-71 on Saturday. Strangely Lanzarote outrebounded Azuqueca 35-19 including 25 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for American forward Julian Lewis (196, college: Lewis) who led his team to a victory with 19 points. Guard Santiago Villena (193-94) contributed with 16 points for the winners. Villena is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Bosnian center Andrej Tomic (213-92, college: Co.Georgia) replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and forward Javier Herreros (194-94) added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Lanzarote. Four Lanzarote players scored in double figures. Azuqueca have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position in Group B with 18-2 record. Lanzarote lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth place with 15 games lost. Azuqueca will face Quintanar (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Lanzarote will play against Rivas and hope to win that game.
