Regular Season Round 24: Girona Basquet - Cantaires Tortosa 86-82

Everything went according to plan when third ranked Girona Basquet (13-5) defeated at home 11th ranked Cantaires Tortosa (6-12) 86-82 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 10-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 86-82. It was a good game for point guard Xavier Costa (192-84) who led his team to a victory with 24 points and 4 steals. Center Raphael Dos-Santos (201-91) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Girona Basquet's coach Quim Costa used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American forward Sean McDonnell (203, college: Westmont) replied with 17 points and 9 rebounds and his fellow American import Lafonzo Smith (206, college: Benedict) added 16 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Cantaires Tortosa. Four Cantaires Tortosa players scored in double figures. Girona Basquet moved-up to second place in Group C-A, which they share with Menorca. Cantaires Tortosa at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eleventh position with 12 games lost. Girona Basquet will face bottom-ranked Sant Adria (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Cantaires Tortosa will play against Arenys and hope to win that game.
