Regular Season Round 19: Iraklis - Apollon Patras 84-91

The game between second ranked Iraklis (15-4) and fifth ranked Apollon Patras (12-7) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Iraklis was defeated by Apollon Patras in a tough game in Thessaloniki 84-91. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Iraklis. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Iraklis won third quarter 19-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Apollon Patras won last quarter 27-22. They made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. 28 personal fouls committed by Iraklis helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Alex Acker (196-83, college: Pepperdine) who helped to win the game recording 26 points and 9 rebounds. Naturalized Israeli guard Marios Matalon (186-89, college: Wyoming) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 assists for the winners. Forward Vasilis Angelakopoulos (203-79) answered with 11 points and 7 rebounds and guard Yannis Gagaloudis (192-78) added 13 points in the effort for Iraklis. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Iraklis' coach Vangelis Alexandris rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Apollon Patras moved-up to fourth place. Iraklis at the other side dropped to the third position with four games lost. Apollon Patras are looking forward to face Marousi (#11) in Athens in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Iraklis will play on the road against Kastoria (#7) and is hoping to win this game.
