Verdes can celebrate finally their first win this season after four consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Belmopan B. (2-4) 101-70 on Saturday. Verdes dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Belmopan B.'s 38 and made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Verdes forced 28 Belmopan B. turnovers and had a 38-26 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Isaiah Thomas scored 24 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals to lead the charge for the winners and guard Elbert Ariola chipped in 19 points during the contest. Verdes' coach felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was center Farron Louriano (198-89) with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds and the former international forward Stephen Williams (188-83) scored 9 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Verdes (1-4) left bottom position moving up to sixth place. Defending champion Belmopan B. keeps the fifth position with four games lost. Verdes will meet bottom-ranked Orange Walk RR (#7) in the next round. Belmopan B. will play against the league's leader San Pedro T. and hope to secure a win.
