Regular Season Round 21: Keflavik - Njardvik 88-79

Bottom-ranked Njardvik (0-21) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 88-79 loss to third ranked Keflavik (14-7) in Keflavik. It looked good early as Njardvik took a 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Keflavik had a 26-15 second period charge getting the lead and Njardvik was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 79-88. Keflavik forced 19 Njardvik turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. It was a good game for American guard Brittanny Dinkins (170-94, college: S.Mississippi) who led her team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 42 points (!!!), 11 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals. International forward Thelma Agustsdottir (179-98) contributed with 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Keflavik's coach Sverrir Sverrisson allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American Shalonda Winton (180-91, college: Cleveland St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 41 points (!!!) and 28 rebounds and point guard Bjork Gunnarsdotir (165-98) added 8 points and 7 assists in the effort for Njardvik. Defending champion maintains third place with 14-7 record having just two points less than leader Haukar. Njardvik at the other side still closes the standings. Keflavik will play against Snaefell (#5) in Stykkisholmur in the next round. Njardvik will play on the road against Skallagrimur in Borganes and hopes to get finally their first victory.
