Regular Season Round 16: Athinaikos - Proteas 70-73

A very interesting game took place in Athens. It ended with only three-point home defeat of higher ranked Athinaikos (8-8) to ninth ranked Proteas (6-10) 73-70 on Sunday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Athinaikos won fourth quarter 23-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American players dominated the game. Power forward Diana Delva (188-88, college: Hartford) fired 24 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winners. Labrittney Jones (185-95, college: Arizona) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks. Forward Hannah Little (185-94, college: Oakland) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and forward Jamee Swan (188-94, college: Colorado, agency: LBM Management) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Athinaikos players scored in double figures. Proteas moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Esperides. Athinaikos at the other side keeps the fifth position with eight games lost. Proteas' next round opponent will be Esperides (#8) in Glyfada. Athinaikos will play on the road against Panathlitikos in Thessaloniki and hope to win that game.
