Regular Season Round 24: Valencia II - Benidorm 86-71

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Benidorm (10-8) lost on the road to third ranked Valencia-2 (12-6) 86-71 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Valencia-2. Benidorm was better in second period 24-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Valencia-2 looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a good game for Jon Galarza (193-97) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds. Jose Merencio (-0) contributed with 20 points and 4 assists for the winners. Four Valencia-2 players scored in double figures. Valencia-2's coach Angel Cepeda used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Jaume Valles (203-95) replied with 20 points and 6 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and forward Francisco Solsona (198-89) added 15 points and 8 assists in the effort for Benidorm. Valencia-2 maintains third position in Group E with 12-6 record having just three points less than leader Vic. Loser Benidorm keeps the sixth place with eight games lost. Valencia-2 will face Cartagena (#7) on the road in the next round. Benidorm will play against Sagunto and hope to win that game.
