Regular Season Round 22: Stjarnan - Haukar 72-74

Fourth-ranked Stjarnan (11-11) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked Haukar (17-5) on Wednesday. The visitors from Hafnarfjordur managed to secure only two-point victory 74-72. However their fans expected easier game. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-13. But Stjarnan won third quarter 22-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Haukar dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Stjarnan's 40. They outrebounded Stjarnan 44-33 including 29 on the defensive glass. Haukar looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Whitney Frazier (180-92, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Two Points) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 27 points and 18 rebounds. The former international swingman Helena Sverrisdottir (184-88, college: TCU) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 9 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Four Haukar players scored in double figures. American guard Danielle Rodriguez (178-93, college: Utah) replied with a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 9 assists and forward Maria Sigurdardottir (178-89) added 10 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Stjarnan. Haukar have an impressive 11-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 17-5 record. Stjarnan lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with 11 games lost. Haukar are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Njardvik (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Stjarnan will play against Breidablik (#6) in Kopavogur and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
