Regular Season Round 20: Haukar - Stjarnan 80-73

Leader Haukar delivered the fifteenth victory. This time they beat 7th ranked Stjarnan (10-10) 80-73 in Hafnarfjordur. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 18-14. But Stjarnan won second period 24-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Haukar dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Stjarnan's 30. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. The winners were led by American forward Paul Jones (198-89, college: W.Washington) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds and guard Emil Barja (192-91) supported him with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists. Five Haukar players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 23 points and 18 rebounds by the former international power forward Hlynur Baeringsson (200-82) did not help to save the game for Stjarnan. American guard Darell Combs (188-93, college: IUPUI) added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the guests. Haukar (15-4) have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Stjarnan at the other side keeps the seventh place with ten games lost. Haukar's next round opponent will be IR (#3) in Reykjavik, which may be the game of the day. Stjarnan will play at home against Keflavik (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
