Everything went according to plan when twelfth ranked Caen (8-12) outplayed at home 16th ranked STB Le Havre (6-14) 88-69 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Caen. STB Le Havre was better in fourth quarter 26-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding STB Le Havre to just 7 points in first quarter. Caen dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to STB Le Havre's 30. Point guard Thomas Cornely (190-91, agency: Octagon Europe) orchestrated the victory by scoring 9 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals. Naturalized Swiss center David Ramseier (202-87) contributed with 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American Ronald Lewis (193-84, college: Ohio St., agency: Pensack Sports) replied with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and power forward Fabien Paschal (208-91) added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for STB Le Havre. Four STB Le Havre players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Caen moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Evreux and Vichy Clermont. Loser STB Le Havre keeps the sixteenth position with 14 games lost. Caen will face bottom-ranked Charleville-Mezieres (#18) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. STB Le Havre will play against Denain Voltaire and hope to win that game.
