Regular Season Round 21: Valur - Grindavik 78-100
Date: March 4, 2018
Not a big story in a game when 10th ranked Valur (7-14) was outscored by sixth ranked Grindavik (12-9) in Reykjavik 100-78 on Sunday. The game without a history. Grindavik led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Grindavik forced 19 Valur turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Valur's players. It was a good game for guard Dagur Jonsson (185-95, college: St.Francis, NY) who led his team to a victory with 22 points and 8 assists. American forward JNathan Bullock (196-87, college: Cleveland St., agency: SDJ Sports) contributed with 22 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Five Grindavik players scored in double figures. American forward Urald King (198-90, college: SE Oklahoma) answered with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks and Gunnar Hardarson (185-96, college: Belm.Abbey) added 13 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Valur. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Grindavik have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Njardvik. Newly promoted Valur keeps the tenth position with 14 games lost. Grindavik will face Thor AK (#11) in Akureyri in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Valur will play on the road against the league's leader Haukar in Hafnarfjordur and hope to win that game.
