Regular Season Round 21: IR - Haukar 64-62

Date: March 4, 2018
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Haukar (15-5) in Reykjavik on Sunday night. Visitors were edged by third ranked IR (15-6) 64-62. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Haukar. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-11. But Haukar won second period 16-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when IR made 8 blocks. It was a good game for American forward Ryan Taylor (196-92, college: Marshall) who led his team to a victory with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. His fellow American import forward Danero Thomas (200-86, college: Murray St.) contributed with 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American forward Paul Jones (198-89, college: W.Washington) answered with 26 points and 7 rebounds and guard Haukur Oskarsson (194-91) added 18 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Haukar. IR moved-up to second place, which they share with Tindastoll. Haukar at the other side still keeps top position with five games lost. IR is looking forward to face Keflavik (#8) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Haukar will play against Valur (#10) and is hoping to win this game.
