No shocking result in a game in Madrid where sixth ranked Unicaja Malaga (13-8) defeated 12th ranked Movil Estudiantes (8-12) 72-57 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Unicaja Malaga. Movil Estudiantes was better in third quarter 14-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Movil Estudiantes 45-34 including 33 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Finnish Sasu Salin (191-91) who scored 18 points and 5 assists. American point guard Ray McCallum (190-91, college: Detroit Mercy) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Montenegrin point guard Omar-Sharif Cook (186-82, college: St.John's, agency: BeoBasket) who recorded 9 points and 8 assists and American-Israeli swingman Sylven Landesberg (198-90, college: Virginia) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Unicaja Malaga moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Gran Canaria and Fuenlabrada. Loser Movil Estudiantes dropped to the thirteenth position with 12 games lost. Unicaja Malaga will face Gipuzkoa (#12) in San Sebastian in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Movil Estudiantes' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Madrid to the arena Baloncesto Fuenlabrada.
