Regular Season Round 21: Zaragoza - Baskonia 74-98
Date: March 4, 2018
Very expected game when 14th ranked Zaragoza (7-14) was rolled over at home by fourth ranked Baskonia (14-7) 98-74 on Sunday. The game without a history. Baskonia led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 25-of-28 free shots (89.3 percent) during the game, while Zaragoza only scored nine points from the stripe. They outrebounded Zaragoza 41-30 including a 34-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Zaragoza was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Georgian Tornike Shengelia (206-91) who scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. Brazilian-Italian point guard Marcelinho Huertas (191-83) chipped in 9 points and 11 assists. Four Baskonia players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Gary Neal (193-84, college: Towson) who recorded 20 points and center Juan Triguero (208-83) added 9 points and 5 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Baskonia have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with FC Barcelona and Valencia. Loser Zaragoza keeps the fourteenth position with 14 games lost. Baskonia will face bottom-ranked Joventut (#18) in Badalona in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Zaragoza will play on the road against CB Canarias (#9) in Tenerife and hope to win that game.
