Regular Season Round 23: Franca - Pinheiros 87-79

Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Sao Paulo: Vivo/Franca (#3) and Pinheiros (#6). Vivo/Franca (18-5) won against visiting Pinheiros (13-10) 87-79. Vivo/Franca dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Pinheiros' 30. Vivo/Franca forced 19 Pinheiros turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Pinheiros' players. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Leandro Barbosa (190-82) who scored 22 points and 7 assists. International Leonardo Meindl (201-93) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds. American guard Cordero Bennett (188-88) produced 19 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import guard Desmond Holloway (191-90, college: Co.Carolina) added 24 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Vivo/Franca have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 18-5 record having four points less than leader Paulistano. Loser Pinheiros dropped to the seventh position with ten games lost. Vivo/Franca will meet SKY/Basquete (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Pinheiros will play against Minas (#10) and hope to secure a win.
