Regular Season Round 18: Ironi Nahariya - Maccabi Rishon 79-89

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both eighth ranked Maccabi Rishon and 9th ranked Ironi Nahariya had identical 7-10 record. But Ironi Nahariya was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Rishon Le-Zion 89-79 on Tuesday night. The game was mostly controlled by Maccabi Rishon. Ironi Nahariya was better in fourth quarter 27-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi Rishon looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Ironi Nahariya's players. Ironi Nahariya was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American forward Murphy Holloway (201-90, college: Mississippi) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. The other American import Jason Siggers (194-85, college: Albany) contributed with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) for the winners. Four Maccabi Rishon players scored in double figures. American swingman Alex Young (198-89, college: IUPUI, agency: Two Points) replied with 21 points and 7 rebounds and naturalized Ukrainian center Igor Nesterenko (203-90) added 16 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) in the effort for Ironi Nahariya. Ironi Nahariya's coach Eric Elfassi rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Maccabi Rishon (8-10) moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Hapoel Eilat. Loser Ironi Nahariya keeps the ninth position with 11 games lost. Maccabi Rishon will face higher ranked Hapoel Tel-Aviv (#5) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Ironi Nahariya will play against Maccabi Ashdod (#4) and hope to win that game.
