Regular Season Round 21: Saint-Chamond - Aix-Maurienne 80-75

Very expected game when 15th ranked Aix-Maurienne (7-14) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Saint Chamond (14-7) 80-75. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 18-12. But Aix-Maurienne won second period 30-29. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Saint Chamond made 24-of-31 charity shots (77.4 percent) during the game, while Aix-Maurienne only scored seven points from the stripe. 27 personal fouls committed by Aix-Maurienne helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for power forward Jean-Stephane Rinna (205-83) who led his team to a victory with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Cuban power forward Grismay Paumier (204-88) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Four Saint Chamond players scored in double figures. American power forward Curtis Kelly (208-88, college: Kansas St., agency: HMS) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) and naturalized Algerian Karim Atamna (196-80) added 16 points in the effort for Aix-Maurienne. Saint Chamond moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Lille. Aix-Maurienne at the other side dropped to the thirteenth position with 14 games lost. Saint Chamond's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Entente Orleans 45 on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Aix-Maurienne will play against Poitiers (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
